Game Of Thrones‘ creator, George R.R. Martin, expressed his excitement for the upcoming spinoff series House of the Dragon with a post that was shared to his website on Wednesday. 

In the message, the 73-year-old writer wrote that he had seen and ‘loved’ a rough cut of the upcoming series’ first episode before giving his best wishes to the project’s cast and crew. 

The forthcoming series is currently set to serve as a prequel to the groundbreaking HBO show and will premiere next year.

Martin began his message by expressing that he was looking forward to the program’s debut even though he knew what would happen.  

‘I am anticipating House of Dragon pretty eagerly myself, for what it’s worth. Okay, I am hardly objective. And I know a lot of what you will be seeing. (I, um, wrote the book),’ he wrote.

The writer then expressed that he had seen an early version of the show’s pilot, which had impressed him greatly. 

‘I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy,’ he noted.

Martin went on to praise the work of both the program’s cast and its executive producers, Ryan J. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik.

‘Ryan and Miguel have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with GAME OF THRONES, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them,’ he noted.

He added: ‘(Only to have your heart broken later when… but no, that would be telling).’ 

Martin concluded his message by expressing that fans of the original program would likely enjoy the stories set to be told in the new show. 

‘I think the Targaryens are in very good hands. Anticipate away. I do not think you will be disappointed,’ he wrote.

House of the Dragon was first rumored to have been in production in 2018, when Martin made comments about various spinoff ideas during an interview with The Guardian. 

A project centered on the rise of House Targaryen was confirmed to have been in the works the following year, and it was given a series order that October. 

Martin himself notably serves as one of the program’s executive producers. 

The show will chronicle the end of the famed House and show the events that lead up to a civil war that will greatly change the political landscape of Westeros in the future. 

The series’ cast, which will include performers such as Rhys Ifans, Sonoya Mizuno and Matt Smith, was largely brought together last year, with several members being added in the past months.

Filming on the future program initially began this past April and continued throughout much of this year.

A teaser trailer for the forthcoming show was released in October. 

House of the Dragon is currently set to make its debut on HBO at an unspecified date in 2022.
