Nate’s gray hair returns in the first image from Ted Lasso season 3. Portrayed by Nick Mohammed, Nathan Shelley began Apple TV+’s hit series as AFC Richmond’s kit man and was soon taken under Ted Lasso’s (Jason Sudeikis) wing to become an assistant coach for the football club. Due to his passion for the game, Nate finds a lot of success early on, much of which goes to his head and causes his relationship with Ted and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) to sour.

Ted Lasso wrapped another successful season this past fall. After a quick turnaround, Sudeikis and his creative team, which includes other stars like Hunt and Brett Goldstein, began working on the third season, which creator Bill Lawrence says could be the end of Ted Lasso in its current form. At the end of season 2, it is revealed that Nate has accepted a job as the coach of West Ham United, the club owned by Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head), the former owner of AFC Richmond who lost ownership of the club to his ex -wife, Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), during their divorce settlement.

Now, the first look behind-the-scenes of Ted Lasso season 3 is here, revealing Nate’s gray hair in all its glory. The set photo was posted to Twitter by Nick Mohammed captioned with a thank you to the show’s makeup designer Nicky Austin. Check out the photo below:

Jamie Tartt actor Phil Dunster previously revealed that Ted Lasso season 3 would begin filming in January 2022. Now, thanks to this set photo posted by Mohammed, it appears production is right on schedule. It’s also suitable that the first look at Ted Lasso season 3 is Nate’s gray hair. The character’s sudden transformation from jet black to fully gray hair during the season 2 finale took many viewers by surprise. However, eagle-eyed fans will notice that Nate’s change in hair color gradually took place and is meant to represent his stress and guilt related to his turn to the dark side, AFC Richmond’s rival club, West Ham United.

This rivalry behind the two football clubs is set to be the focus of Ted Lasso season 3. While a few episodes in season 2 like the “Carol of the Bells” and “Beard After Hours” shifted the focus from football to character development, Nate betrayal’s gives Ted Lasso the opportunity to bring football back to the forefront of the show. With season 3 now officially in production, expect Ted Lasso to return to Apple TV+ sometime later this year, summer at the earliest.
