Better Call Saul Season 6 Release Dates For Parts 1 & 2 Revealed

AMC sets its premiere date for Better Call Saul season 6, the final season of the series, nearly two years after the finale of season 5.

AMC has finally announced the official premiere date for Better Call Saul season 6, which is also its final season. Better Call Saul began airing on the network in 2015, a year and a half after the finale of Breaking Bad. The series follows the origin of the Breaking Bad character Saul Goodman, an unscrupulous lawyer who began his life as Jimmy McGill before embracing his alter ego. The series stars Bob Odenkirk as Saul alongside Rhea Seehorn, Michael McKean, Tony Dalton, and returning Breaking Bad players Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring and Jonathan Banks as Michael Ehrmantraut.

Season 5 of Better Call Saul ended in April 2020, so fans have been waiting on tenterhooks for the conclusion for quite some time. Production on the final season of the series was initially delayed by the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, with filming resuming in March 2021. Unfortunately, the production was delayed even further when Bob Odenkirk suffered a heart attack on set in July. He returned to work in September, but presumably his pace was slowed down so he could take care of himself while completing Better Call Saul.

Per THR, AMC has announced that Better Call Saul season 6 is, at last, coming to the air on April 18, 2022. In typical AMC style, the 13-episode season will be split into two blocks of episodes with a break in between. There will be a hiatus of six weeks after the first seven episodes air, whereupon the final six episodes will begin airing on July 11, 2022, and conclude the series.

Bob Odenkirk has described Better Call Saul season 6 as having more of a “character-development focus” rather than focusing on flashy intensity. However, that doesn’t mean the show won’t stay hard-hitting, as executive producer Thomas Schnauz has previously teased plenty of “physical and emotional violence.” Beyond that, however, not much is known about the nature of the season, though now that the premiere date has been set, a proper trailer can’t be too far behind.

Better Call Saul has had a tortured route to the finish line, so it will be gratifying for viewers to finally be able to get closure on the series. It has been widely regarded as one of the most compelling and well-made prequel series of all time, and it deserves the chance to finish telling its story, however long that process might have taken. This announcement coming right before Super Bowl Sunday might also spell good news for fans, as many TV and movie projects are preparing to debut major teasers and announcements during the game.
