Chucky Season 2 Releases This Year, Confirms Don Mancini

Child’s Play creator Don Mancini confirms that season 2 of the SyFy/USA Network killer doll series Chucky will be coming later this year.

Chucky creator Don Mancini confirms that season 2 of the killer doll series will be coming this year. The Chucky franchise boasts an unusually tight continuity thanks to Don Mancini, who has been shepherding the character to the big and small screen since the first Child’s Play film in 1988. Although the original screenplay also featured contributions from Tom Holland and John Lafia (who would later direct Child’s Play 2), Mancini went on to write the screenplays for the six subsequent films in the chronology (not counting the unrelated 2019 reboot), directing the last three: Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky, and Cult of Chucky.

While the 2019 reboot was being developed by a different team, Mancini was hard at work bringing his iteration of Chucky to the small screen. Chucky season 1 premiered on SyFy and USA Network on October 12, 2021, following a gay teen named Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) who discovers a vintage Chucky doll at a garage sale. He soon learns that the doll contains the spirit of the serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), who goes on a killing spree, sowing chaos throughout his family and his school. Chucky was renewed for season 2 in November, one day before the season finale aired.

On Twitter, Don Mancini shared a logo for Chucky season 2, revealing that the series will officially be coming sometime in 2022. Although the first season was somewhat delayed due to the beginning of the pandemic, the same issues do not seem to have affected the new season. At this time, there is no word as to what cast members will be returning. Check out the post below:

Chucky season 1 brought a crop of new young actors to the fore, including Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Teo Briones. However, the season was also stacked with horror genre stalwarts including Final Destination’s Devon Sawa and Jason X’s Lexa Doig. The show also included many characters from Chucky films past, including Alex Vincent’s Andy Barclay, Christine Elise’s Kyle, Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany Valentine, and Fiona Dourif’s Nica Pierce (Dourif also did double duty, playing young Charles Lee Ray in flashbacks).

Chucky season 1 continued the logic-defying run of well-received projects from the Child’s Play universe. While other slasher franchise projects have had extreme ups and downs as far as public opinion, like the recently maligned Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, Chucky found its audience and struck a chord. Hopefully the team they assemble for season 2 will have just as much success in keeping the series going, continuing past the huge twists and turns of its bombastic season 1 finale.
