You Season 4 Images Show Off Penn Badgley’s New Look As Joe Goldberg

Netflix shared new images from You season 4, flaunting a new look for Penn Badgley as the troubled protagonist Joe Goldberg as he goes abroad.

Netflix shared photos from You season 4, flaunting a new look for Penn Badgley as everyone’s favorite murderous protagonist Joe Goldberg. Based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the television adaption of You caught fire after moving from Lifetime to Netflix for season 2. The psychological thriller follows the twisted love life of Joe Goldberg (Badgley), who would quite literally do anything for love. This was most recently proven by the end of You season 3, which sees Joe moving on from Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) to what he thinks to be his perfect match Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle).

Before season 3 even premiered, Netflix picked up You season 4. Season 3 ended with an explosive finale as Joe literally blew up the home he shared with Love after murdering her. The killer then leaves their child Henry with Dante (Ben Mehl) and his partner so he can track down librarian on-the-run Marienne. In typical You fashion, the season’s final moments hooked viewers with what’s to come, showing Joe stalking the streets of Paris. Netflix has begun to confirm new details on the show’s latest chilling chapter, revealing character descriptions and set photos.

Now, Netflix has shared two images from the set of You season 4, giving viewers a glimpse at the latest iteration of Joe Goldberg. The first photo shows Badgley seated on set in his custom folding chair while sporting a scruffy new look. A second photo provides a closeup of the chair beside him, which is piled high with an alluring selection of books. Check out the images below:

As the caption confirms, it seems scruffy Joe will not be scouring Paris for his love, but hunting her down in London. Hitting the point home even further, the iconic pieces of literature chosen to promote the season are all set in London. According to Netflix, after Joe flies to Europe in pursuit of Marienne he winds up in the British city. There, the sociopath meets a dangerous new friend named Malcolm who whisks him into the world of London’s elite. In an unsurprising turn, the new setting also reaps a new love interest in the wealthy Lady Phoebe. The titles of the book also hint at Joe’s mindset, particularly A Good Man in a Cruel World and Great Expectations, both of which hint at the delusional ways in which the murderer sees himself.

Production on You season 4 is currently underway, meaning it most likely won’t stream until at least the fall of 2022. Joe’s new bearded look gives him more of a disguised presence as he waltzes onto the London scene, something that may be necessary considering the events of the You season 3 finale. It doesn’t seem out of the question that some authorities could be looking for him. It’s also possible that he is using the bearded look to disguise himself from Marienne, who may or may not be his next target. As viewers have seen time and time again, his charming appearance always lures his victims in. It’s almost a symbol for You as a show, which entices audiences with a glittering new setting and set of characters, but consistently serves up a dark story. No matter what happens, London certainly will not be the same.
