Fast & Furious 10 Story Tease Reveals The Franchise’s Biggest Challenge

Tyrese Gibson recently teased story details for Fast and Furious 10, inadvertently revealing The Fast Saga’s biggest challenge moving forward.

Tyrese Gibson’s tease for Fast and Furious 10 highlights The Fast Saga’s biggest challenge moving forward. Following Fast & Furious 9, the franchise’s main storyline is down to its two final installments. Fast and Furious 10 will kick things off in 2023 followed by Fast and Furious 11. Inspired by Marvel Studios’ two-part sensation Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Vin Diesel and company are aiming to deliver an equally, if not more satisfying ending to “la familia’s” adventures—but the filmmakers’ jobs are cut out for them, for multiple reasons.

While Rob Cohen’s original The Fast and the Furious started off as a fairly straightforward action flick about street racing,The Fast Saga has outgrown its roots to become a full-on action and adventure powerhouse—particularly at the box office. Director Justin Lin is set to helm both films after successfully making his Fast Saga comeback in F9. Plot details are still scant at the moment, but aside from the core cast, Charlize Theron’s Cipher is expected to be the antagonist for both films. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones and Dune star Jason Momoa has also joined the film series as another villain.

While fans are looking forward to Dominic Toretto and his team’s rematch with Cipher, the majority of the public is more invested in seeing what ridiculous action setpiece The Fast and Furious 10 will stage. Recently, Tyrese Gibson teased fans with what to expect from the blockbuster while sharing his reaction to reading the movie’s script, and he’s clearly stoked and flabbergasted with what they’re planning for the film. But it also reinforces the pressure on Fast and Furious 10 to outdo what they did in F9 in terms of stunts and action scenes. This escalation has been a factor for a while now, but with F9 going to space, Lin and his team would have to come up with a grander, bolder, if not more ridiculous set piece for Fast and Furious 10 to top it.

Previously, fans thought that The Fast Saga was saving a galactic action sequence for its final two films. But F9 already doing it, Fast and Furious 10 and Fast and Furious 11 are forced to once again escalate the stakes. It’s worth noting that F9‘s galactic bit didn’t come until the third act, leaving the public questioning a lot of its specific details. Perhaps, Fast and Furious 10 could actually see Dom and his team fully engaging in a space conflict instead of sending Tej (Ludacris) and Roman (Gibson) on a last-minute, out-of-this-world trip. While Fast & Furious 11 can subvert expectations by seeing the gang revisit their car racing roots, it’s imperative that its predecessor offers fans one last mind-boggling action setpiece for this narrative scheme to work.

It’s an understatement to say that there’s pressure for Lin, Diesel, and Universal to deliver a great send-off for “la familia” in Fast and Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11. But aside from the movies’ actual stories, it’s also important that they do the same in terms of their action sequences. Over the years, The Fast Saga has become synonymous with over-the-top set pieces; as the franchise ends, it’s time that they fully embrace this and go all out with their final installments.
