Jack White showed everyone on Friday how to make the most out of a single day: it must be the blue hair.

Yesterday (April 8), White started the day performing a fantastic, yet remarkably unique, version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Detroit Tigers’ home opener for the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

White, accompanied by his touring band, played slide guitar for the song, starting off and ending by quietly playing the song’s melody as a slide-guitar solo accompanied by keyboardist Quincy McCrary’s notably growling Hammond B-3 organ, which really stood out juxtaposed to the crowd of dutifully-quiet baseball fans, as well as drummer Daru Jones and bassist Dominic John Davis.

Next, White kicked off the cheekily-named Supply Chain Issue Tour at the 5,000-seat-capacity Masonic Temple Theater in his hometown of Detroit, Mich., and right off the bat busted out two live debuts from his Fear of the Dawn album, released yesterday, in “Taking Me Back” followed by the title track.

White dove straight into The White Stripes’ catalog for his third song of the night with “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground” from 2001’s White Blood Cells followed by “Love Interruption” from 2012’s grossly-overlooked-these-days Blunderbuss.

He also debuted “Love is Selfish” from the forthcoming 2022 album Entering Heaven Alive, and later performed U2’s “Love is Blindness” for the first time since 2012.

The Detroit Free Press reported that halfway through the final song of the evening, The White Stripes’ “Hotel Yorba,” White proposed to his girlfriend and musician, Olivia Jean (The Black Belles) — interesting timing, for sure, considering White had just dedicated the previous song, “Ball and Biscuit,” to his ex-wife and former White Stripes drummer Meg White.

To cap it all off, White married Jean onstage in a wedding ceremony officiated by Ben Swank (Third Man) — we’re guessing he became an ordained minister for the event?

Detroit Free Press reporter Brian McCollum wrote, “In a long history of memorable Jack White shows in Detroit — this one unexpectedly wound up near the top.”

Zigsandzags in an Instagram story wrote, “What a show! What a band! What a wedding!”

Also of note, many photos of the show posted to the OfficialJackWhite account show the band bathed in blue light, obfuscating White’s often-discussed, dyed blue hair.
