Sydney Sweeney has quickly risen to be one of Hollywood’s most exciting and dynamic young actors, but her road to superstardom hasn’t been overly typical for the star. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney talked about her career so far, especially her time on HBO’s The White Lotus and Euphoria. When talking about her nude scenes in the latter series, Sweeney said “People forget that I’m playing a character,” adding “They think, ‘Oh, she gets naked onscreen, she’s a sex symbol.” Sweeney finished the thought by saying “And I can’t get past that. I have no problems with those scenes, and I won’t stop doing them, but I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we’re assuming about actors in the industry.”

Based on what Sydney Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter, it seems that her experience with these potentially uncomfortable scenes has been mostly positive. Of course, it probably depends on the crew and the people working on the scene, but Euphoria seems to have it down to a science at this point. Sweeney plays Cassie in Euphoria, an insecure young girl who seeks attention from the boys at school for affirmation. Sweeney’s performance as Cassie earned her an Emmy nod, as did her performance in The White Lotus.

While The Hollywood Reporter interview revealed a lot about Sydney Sweeney’s life and her approach to her career, the interviewer was unable to get any details about her mysterious role in her next big project Madame Web. The scant details include that she went through fight training, movement training, and Reformacore Pilates for the role and that she was attracted to it because of the personal struggles of her character. This isn’t much to go off of, but it seems like it’ll be a more action-oriented role for Sweeney if she’s been training for on-screen fights. Of course, Madame Web is a Spider-Man character, so there was bound to be some action involved. Madame Web is yet another entry to Sony’s Spiderverse of films which includes Venom, Morbius, and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. Madame Web is a clairvoyant mutant in the comics and Dakota Johnson is reported to be playing the title role, so it’ll be interesting to see who Sweeney is playing. The movie also stars Adam Scott, Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, and Mike Epps. S.J. Clarkson directs with a script by Kerem Sanga, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless. We’ll have to wait a while to uncover the mysteries of this film, as it’s not scheduled to come out until October of 2023.

Before Madame Web, we’ll be seeing Sydney Sweeney in a film called National Anthem. The film tells the story of a rare Lakota Ghost Shirt hitting the black market in a small South Dakota town, causing violence to break out. National Anthem is written and directed by Tony Tost. Along with Sweeney, the film will star Paul Walter Hauser, Zahn McClarnon, Halsey, Simon Rex, Eric Dane, Toby Huss, Harriet Sansom Harris, Joe Adler, and more. There isn’t a release date announced for National Anthem yet, but the movie is currently in post-production. Stay tuned for this and all other Sydney Sweeney projects.
