Alison Brie might not be the first person you’d think of to grace the cover of a sultry romance novel, but when you see it put into practice it makes a ton of sense. That’s the case with some promotional work for his newest film which definitely is giving off that vibe even if it’s only a bit tongue-in-cheek. Over on Instagram, the actress posted a picture of the movie’s poster and it has her in a sexy red dress in the throes of a passionate moment. Does she look all that comfortable being there? Well, not really but that’s kind of the point. Alison Brie doesn’t see herself as the kind of person who would grace these grocery store novel covers, and therein lies the fun. This is the poster and promotional art for Spin Me Round, the next movie for Alison Brie. The tag line for the flick says it is “Unbridled romance with a side of soup or salad” which really leaves the door open for a bunch of interpretations. Alison Brie finds herself in this position on the cover, looking none too comfortable because it appears her character is going to get into a bit of a mess for this movie. The flick is being advertised as a romantic comedy thriller and has Alison Brie’s Amber traveling to Europe on an all-expenses paid trip sponsored by the restaurant chain she’s working for. There she meets the company’s eccentric owner played by Alessandro Nivola (The Many Saints of Newark).

How this story with Alison Brie plays out is anyone’s guess but it’s likely that the owner, as well as the whole experience, goes off the rails in a hilarious fashion. With the thriller aspect tied to Spin Me Round’s description, we are probably in for a treat in which Alison Brie is trying to figure things out right along with the viewer. The movie also includes Aubrey Plaza and Molly Shannon among others. The film is being directed by Jeff Baena who is also married to Plaza. Brie and Baena have worked together previously on Little Hours and Horse Girl. Brie helped co-write the latter and she also helped pen this latest movie as well.

After Spin Me Round, we can next see Alison Brie in Somebody I Used to Know a romantic comedy co-starring Jay Ellis. The movie was written and directed by Brie’s husband Dave Franco.

Alison Brie and company are set to release Spin Me Round on August 19th when it hits IFC and AMC+. The flick already debuted at SXSW earlier this spring. It’s currently sitting at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes through 17 reviews after the early screenings. Critics were mostly on board with Brie’s performance and the overall gestalt of the film. Though there were some complaints that it was a bit all over the place and didn’t mine quite the number of laughs one would think considering the comedy chops of the cast.
