Since 2020, Sofia Vergara has been one of the judges on the popular reality competition show America’s Got Talent, currently co-starring with Simon Callow, Terry Crews, Howie Mandel, and Heidi Klum.
Sofia Vergara will be portraying Griselda Blanco in the upcoming Netflix series Griselda. The real-life Griselda Blanco was the leader of the infamous Medellín drug cartel and was notorious for her ruthlessness, brutality, and willingness to personally carry killings. She herself was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2012, most likely as part of the Miami-area cocaine trade that she helped turn into one of the most lucrative criminal enterprises in history.
Sofia Vergara is Colombian, as was Griselda Blanco herself. The drug queen’s life was previously portrayed in the Lifetime channel movie Cocaine Godmother, in which she was played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. As Zeta-Jones is a non-Hispanic Welsh actress, there was some controversy over the casting, but hopefully, Sofia Vergara will be a better choice for the role. Interestingly, another film about the life of Griselda Blanco with Jennifer Lopez in the lead role has been in development for several years, so we might get competing biopic projects in the near future.
