Anne Heche said ‘nothing could ever satisfy’ ex Ellen Degeneres in final interview

Hollywood actress Anne Heche, who has been officially declared dead following a horror car accident, claimed she gave up her career and friends for her ex-girlfriend Ellen Degeneres.

Anne Heche once said she tried to contact her ex girlfriend Ellen Degeneres “every day” of her life to make peace after their shock split in 2000 – but nothing could “satisfy her soul”.

The actress was discussing her three-year relationship with the American talk show host in a 2021 interview, which would be her last public chat about her former partner.

Anne revealed that she was tormented for years after her breakup, writes the Mirror.

Ellen, 64, and actress Anne, 53, dated between the years of 1997 and 2000 after coming out, but their relationship took a turn for the worst after the millennium when Anne’s mental health began to deteriorate.

As she opened up about the romance, Anne told Perez Hilton in a YouTube interview she was “relieved” to talk about their time together finally.

When asked if she ever reached out to Ellen following their split, Anne said: “You know what, every day of my life I reached out to her. I think that it was a very difficult thing for her to trust that I was a woman who could fall in love with a woman, without being gay.

“I think there was a lot to process, so I tried to make the process as simple as possible by quitting Hollywood, moving to Ohio, growing gardens, starting to write and direct with her – which I did in Sharon Stone’s movie of all things called Misconception.

“But nothing would satisfy her soul,” Anne concluded.

When asked when Anne knew the time had come to break things off with Ellen after their fiery romance, the actress admitted that it was a ‘slow roll.

Anne said: “I think it was a slow roll. When you come to understand the truth of another – I wanted desperately to have that relationship be the love of my life. That was my Cinderella story.

“But what happened was that I was shut out from things that I cared about and in order to make her feel like she was being loved, I would erase those things from my past such as acting and replace them with things that I thought would give her a foundation.”

Anne went on: “As we got further and further away from me being able to be in public the way that would please her, I began getting further and further away from my friends and my friendships. And one of the things that concerned me very much was that I beginning to feel shut off and shut down and shut away.

“I told Ellen that I needed to have friends, she said that she did not want a girlfriend that needed that, and that is the day I left.”

The Mirror have reached out to Ellen’s representatives for comment.

It comes after talk-show host Ellen revealed the pair had not spoken in years this week.

The TV host was spotted out with a friend at True Lune restart in Santa Barbara, California on Monday, where she wished her ex-girlfriend well amid her devastating condition.

Anne has been in a coma since August 5 when she was left seriously injured and fighting for her life after a horror crash when she was under the influence of cocaine.

Earlier today (Friday) Anne’s family issued a heartbreaking statement, saying she has been declared brain dead and is only remaining on life support until it can be established if her organs are viable to be donated.

They said in a statement: “Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive.”

Anne’s Mini Cooper smashed into a two-storey home in Los Angeles last week

They continued to say there are plans in place to possibly donate the star’s organs, adding: “It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.”

Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work – especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love.

“She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

The Los Angeles Police Department said preliminary blood tests have revealed the presence of drugs in Anne’s system when her Mini Cooper struck the two-storey home. Anne is in a coma after suffering a severe anoxic brain injury, which is caused by a sustained lack of oxygen to the brain.

Following the crash, Ellen was spotted out and about and quizzed about her former partner’s harrowing condition.

In a video shared by the Daily Mail, she was asked if she has spoken to Anne since the accident.

“No,” Ellen said as she shook her head. “I have not. We’re not in touch with each other so I wouldn’t know.”

The cameraman was then heard asking: “Do you wanna send her any well wishes?”

“Sure,” Ellen said. “I don’t want anyone to be hurt.”

The horror incident occurred a week ago in the Mar Vista neighbourhood of Los Angeles.
