See Lily-Rose Depp In Sexy New Music Series

Sam Levinson, the creator of Zendaya’s hit show Euphoria, has a new HBO series coming, which promises to delve into the seedy underside of the music industry. The Idol, which stars Lily-Rose Depp and Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, just released a second teaser, with the tagline “from the gutters of Hollywood,” and showing off lots of skin and partying; all with a gritty, sinister undertone. The teaser made its premiere at The Weeknd’s show in Las Vegas on Sunday, but is now available for everyone to see.

According to Deadline, the series follows a young pop singer named Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) who begins dating a Los Angeles nightclub owner named Tedros (The Weeknd), unaware that he is also the leader of a secret cult, with few other details about the show available. The premise sounds like it took inspiration from the real-life tale of the NXIVM sex cult, which was led by con-man Keith Raniere and Smallville star Allison Mack, and targeted young Hollywood actresses. The first season is slated to run six episodes, and a premiere date has not yet been announced. The series was co-created by Levinson, Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. Joe Epstein will act as showrunner and writer for the series. Mary Laws, who also writes for HBO’s hit Succession, will also write and executive produce.

This is actually the second teaser for the series, which has been undergoing major reshoots and recasting since director Amy Seimetz left the series in April over creative differences. Interestingly, these changes may mean some actors may have their work completely removed from the final episodes, including Debby Ryan, Elizabeth Berkeley and the late Anne Heche, who died August 11 after a car crash. While they are still listed among the cast in the show’s IMDB listing, appearing in all episodes, they are both missing from the cast list HBO is now distributing with the teaser, and the network has not commented on their status. In addition to Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, among the cast HBO is announcing (and featuring in the teaser) is Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), singer Troye Sivan (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), singer Moses Sumney, Jane Adams, Dan Levy, Jennie Ruby Jane, director Eli Roth (Inglourious Basterds), Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Da’vine Joy Randolph, Mike Dean, Ramsey, and Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Godzilla). No character names (besides the leads) have been released, and the teasers only give us a bit of a Euphoria vibe but no additional plot points. The first teaser for the series was released in late July.

The 23-year-old daughter of actor Johnny Depp and French actress Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose Depp has been acting since she had a small role in the 2014 horror flick Tusk, directed by Kevin Smith. She was a co-lead in another Smith film, 2016’s Yoga Hosers, and her career seemed to take off from there. Roles in The KingVoyagers, and Silent Night followed. After she completes work on The Idol, Depp is set to star in Joe Talbot’s The Governesses and Moose Jaws, a horror spoof from Kevin Smith.
