‘Look extraordinary’ GMB host begs Belinda Carlisle for ‘secret’ to youthful appearance

BELINDA CARLISLE left Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway stunned with her “extraordinary” appearance.

Former Go-Go’s and Heaven is a Place on Earth singer Belinda Carlisle joined Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder to discuss her upcoming tour. The legendary singer opened up on the 38 years of her solo career, with Kate being left blown away by her appearance, joking she needed to get the “secrets” from her.

Asked about her career, Belinda explained: “I mean I always say if someone told me 40 years ago that I would still be doing this, I would have said o way.’

“I think a part of it is because of that song, there are a few songs that I have had it transcends music and becomes moments in people’s lives.

“It is a great song and it is a great pop song, when I do shows the demographic is from little kids that know the words to older people.”

Teasing the singer, Kate exclaimed: “Well you say older, but you look extraordinary, we need to get the secrets out of you.

“Like you said you are still doing it, you’re off on tour next year, is that going to incorporate everything, have you got new music, what’s there?”

Discussing the upcoming tour, she revealed: “Well it’s called Decades so the set-list pretty much covers all my solo albums, maybe a few of the Go-Gos.”

Interrupting, Kate asked: “Which is 35 years solo?” to which Belinda laughed: “It is a long time.

“Since 1984 so that is 38 years of being solo, but the Go-Gos and I still work together on occasion, but yeah it will encompass all the hits and some of the deeper cuts as I say.”

Praising her near 40 years of success, Kate said: “Did you see yourself as a pioneer being in that all-female band, or was it just you doing it?”

Before she could answer, Rob agreed: “You are a pioneer, you wrote your own songs, you didn’t care about listening to what the world told you to wear and all that stuff.

“I think you have commented before that there is pressure on young women in music now to do the opposite, to be sexualised and you have always made it clear that it has always been about the music.”

Explaining what she thought about music today, Belinda expressed: “We were lucky to be given artistic freedom to be ourselves and there wasn’t a lot of sexualisation in music back then.

“So I think that that is what people really loved about the band, we were relatable and we weren’t trying to be anything that we weren’t.

“Now these days, music is a lot more corporate and I think MTV changed music, it made it more about the appearances than about the actual art so, hopefully, music will find its way back.”

Belinda has opened up about the way music has changed over the years in the past, expressing being in one of the biggest bands was an “amazing feat”.

She previously told The Hollywood Reporter: “People assume that you’re put together by a Simon Cowell.

“But we put ourselves together. We had no idea how to play instruments, how to write songs, how to do anything.

“And going from that in 1978 to being probably the biggest band in America in 1981 — it’s an amazing feat.”

Despite her solo career, Belinda has kept her tied with the Go-Gos close, as they performed together in December 2021 for a New Years’ Eve special.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
