Rings Of Power Season 2 Filming Set To Begin Soon

Rings of Power showrunner reveals series is only a couple weeks away from starting production on season 2 with script drafts already written.

With the premiere already setting viewership records for Prime Video, showrunner JD Payne has revealed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2’s filming will begin soon. With only two of the eight episodes released so far, the epic fantasy series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels has already taken the world by storm with season 1. The series is planned to run for five seasons, giving viewers about 50 hours of Middle-earth content.

Despite positive reviews from critics, trolls have review bombed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerleading Amazon to disable reviews entirely for an undisclosed period of time. However, that hasn’t stopped toxic audiences from taking to Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB to bring down the show’s score to 37 percent approval rating on the former at the time of writing. Though review bombing can be annoying for those enjoying a property, the majority of viewers seem to have a positive outlook on Rings of Power’s first two episodes, and now have exciting news about the show’s future.

Which Prequel Has More Promise: House of the Dragon or Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

In an interview with RadioTimes.com, J.D. Payne offered an update on The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2. The showrunner revealed that the drafts for the season 2 scripts are already completed, and that filming is set to begin soon. See what Payne shared below:

“We’ve written our drafts [for season 2]. We are a couple of weeks away from starting production.”

With four seasons planned ahead of them, the showrunners have teased they already know the final shot of the series and how they want the series to traverse Middle-earth. There is still room for improvisation and surprises though, with the showrunners having previously compared the series to a road trip with planned stops but room to explore. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has already brought the stunning landscapes and characters of Tolkien’s world back to screens, but it is hard to say what audiences truly think of the show with the review bombing. While some are still worried that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power won’t do Tolkien’s storytelling justice, and that the series is a money grab, the showrunners have assured viewers that the series is planned out and some things that happen in season 1 won’t pay off until season 5.
