Werewolf by Night Trailer Looks Unlike ANYTHING Marvel Has Done Before
Marvel reveals the trailer for Halloween Special Werewolf By Night at D23 Expo, teasing a very different look for the live-action special.
Marvel has unveiled the trailer for Werewolf By Night, a Halloween special. A unique MCU tale that features the introduction of an all-new character into the MCU, Werewolf By Night will star Gael García Bernal as the titular hero. A refreshing change of pace from the multiverse and superhero-driven narratives that are dominating the MCU as of late, Werewolf By Night will center on Jack Russel, a character that is less known by casual Marvel fans, who shape-shifts into a werewolf during the full moon.
Featuring the introduction of a supernatural creature into the MCU with werewolves, Werewolf By Night has the potential to change everything fans thought they knew about the MCU. Filming took place earlier this year, and while not many details have been revealed about the special, the foray into the supernatural will certainly be a change of pace for Marvel fans. The special wasn’t announced when the Phase 5 and 6 lineups were revealed, but it was previously set for release in October of this year, just in time for the spooky season.
Now, Marvel has released a shocking and unique trailer for the special, proving that it is unlike any previous MCU project. The post also sets the film for an October 7 release date on Disney+. See the footage below:
With plenty of spin-offs and sequels on the docket for Phases 5 and 6, it’s exciting to see Marvel move into a new area with Werewolf By Night. The trailer is a complete surprise, shot in black and white as a retro monster mystery with a tone that sets it apart from any other Marvel offerings. The different vibe from this trailer is fitting considering the comics’ shift from the superhero genre to horror. Directed by renowned composer Michael Giacchino in his major debut, it is impressive to see how the music-minded director creates such a thrilling ambiance in the trailer. It’s clear in the footage that Marvel is going all-in on the vintage scream factor, with an impressive old-school production that will surely delight viewers.
Werewolf By Night’s release date puts the special in Phase 4. The character’s introduction shows just how much Disney+ has revolutionized the MCU, allowing new and uniquely themed projects such as this one to. Though it’s unclear what Werewolf By Night’s place is in the overall MCU timeline, he does interact with Moon Knight in the comics and even features Moon Knight’s first comic appearance. Since Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight already exists in the MCU, it remains to be seen whether the two will share the screen in the Halloween special or perhaps in an MCU project further down the line.
