GoT’s Kit Harington Reacts To House Of The Dragon’s First Episodes

Game of Thrones and Eternals actor Kit Harington praises House of the Dragon for being a new and unique entry in the ever-expanding world of Westeros.

Game of Thrones and Eternals actor Kit Harington has revealed his thoughts on the first episodes of House of the Dragon. Harington is best known for his time on Game of Thrones as Jon Snow, a member of the Night’s Watch who soon became a central figure in the conflict against the White Walkers. As the series progressed, Snow learned of his heritage as a Targaryen, tying his lineage to characters shown in House of the Dragon.

Harington has been involved in many major film projects since Game of Thrones ended in 2019, including voicing former dragon hunter Eret in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and playing Dane Whitman in The Eternals, a character whose comic counterpart becomes the Black Knight. Despite no longer playing Jon Snow, Harington has continued to involve himself in the world of Game of Thrones. Harington has spoken extensively about his time on the series since it ended and continues to appear at conventions to meet fans of the franchise.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight Canada at the Toronto International Film Festival, Harington revealed that he also keeps engaging with the world of Westeros by watching House of the Dragon. While singing its praises, he gave specific credit to Miguel Sapochnik, who left House of the Dragon as showrunner after the first two episodes aired. Harington applauded the series for how enjoyable it is and for its uniqueness when compared to its parent series. He also acknowledged the strangeness that comes with creating a new show set in the same world as Game of Thrones. See his response below:

I’m really enjoying it. My friend Miguel showran it, so I’m really enjoying it. I think they’ve done a fantastic job. It’s a weird one, to start a whole new show in the same kind of realm and to make it its own thing. And I think that they’ve really done that.

Harington’s approval of House of the Dragon comes three months after HBO announced a Jon Snow sequel series, set to continue the character’s story after Game of Thrones. While still in early development, Harington will be returning as the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch after going north with the Wildlings beyond the Wall. At least three other Game of Thrones spin-offs have been planned by HBO, with House of the Dragon acting as a gateway of sorts into a new era brimming with more stories from Westeros.

The positive comments Harington gave House of the Dragon could be a good sign for any Game of Thrones series HBO plans to develop in the future. With his own show on the horizon, coupled with admiration for House of the Dragon, it’s likely audiences can expect the same level of quality from future Game of Thrones prequels, sequels, and spin-offs. It should prove interesting to see how the world of Westeros expands onscreen and how Game of Thrones actors like Harington respond to these new stories.
