George Clooney on the awkward moment he had to kiss Julia Roberts in front of wife Amal

George Clooney has shared the awkward story of when he had to kiss Julia Roberts in Ticket to Paradise in front of his wife Amal Clooney.

The Ocean’s Eleven co-stars shared the anecdote when promoting their new romantic comedy, in which Clooney and Roberts play divorced parents who try to stop their daughter’s wedding to a man she’s just met in Hawaii.

Clooney, 61 and Roberts, 54 have been friends for decades and reflected on working together again, especially in a rom-com, on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show this morning.

When asked on the BBC Radio 2 show what it’s like to kiss your close friend on-screen, Clooney joked: ‘Depends on the friend.’

Roberts quipped: ‘You’ve never had trouble kissing Brad [Pitt].’

Before, the acting legends addressed how ‘strange’ it can be when you have to kiss someone other than your partner.

‘It’s kinda goofy, kissing anybody that’s not your person is strange,’ Roberts added.

Clooney reflected on the day he had to kiss Roberts in front of his wife, who was on set.

‘My wife and kids came to the set the day we were doing it,’ Clooney continued. ‘You know, take the kids away. Anything but watching papa kiss [Julia].’

In spite of the strange sensation of kissing your pal on camera, Clooney and Roberts were delighted to work with each other again on their first rom-com together.

‘We were sent it [the script] at the same moment, and there was a strange synchronicity to both of us being around at the same time to read it.’ Roberts told Ball.

Clooney said: ‘We both said at the same time “if you do it, I’ll do it”. I don’t think we could’ve done it with anybody else, that’s kinda how it felt.’

Ticket to Paradise marks Roberts’ first romantic comedy in almost two decades, after her early success in movies such as Pretty Woman and Notting Hill.

Clooney has also done his fair share of playing the dishy leading man that everyone swoons over, and even called himself the ‘king of rom-coms.’

He joked: ‘You would easily argue I am the king of rom coms.’

Before he reflected on how important films that provide people with light relief are, especially after the pandemic.

‘We’ve had a bad couple of years, all of us, not just from the pandemic, everything, the world is divisive, there’s a lot of darkness out there, and this felt like it could be fun [and] some relief of that,’ Clooney added.

Ticket to Paradise is in cinemas now.
