Alex Scott breaks down in tears on This Morning as she admits struggle to speak about dark past
ALEX Scott broke down in tears as she opened up about her dark past while discussing her memoir on This Morning.
The former Arsenal star has released How (Not) to Be Strong, which reveals her tough upbringing for the first time.
Despite writing the book herself, Alex says speaking about her traumatic childhood with an “abusive, alcoholic father” in interviews has been the toughest part.
Until now she hasn’t even spoken out loud about what happened – even to her mum and brother.
She was pushed to tears by presenter Phillip Schofield on the This Morning sofa today who explained: “Life at home for you was quite tricky. You didn’t have an easy start.”
He then read out a paragraph from Alex’s book, which read: “When my dad was sober he was a charming guy, but the moment drink was involved that would change.
“Me, my mum and brother have never spoken about it.”
Asked if was “tricky stuff” to write, Alex’s eyes filled with tears.
Holly Willoughby cut in saying: “Even trickier to say…”
The emotional moment took Alex’s breath away and she paused to regain her composure.
She said through tears: “The hardest part is, I didn’t write that chapter to shame my dad.
“I wanted my mum to be free.
“I want her to believe she’s a role model and move forward.
“I write in the book she still thinks she’s a coward. She’s anything but.”
At the end of the interview, Holly reached over to cuddle Alex after the emotional moment.
