Ariana Grande has taken to Instagram to reveal her new blonde hair for the upcoming Wicked movie adaptation, in which she will star as Glinda.
Ariana Grande is getting into character as Glinda for the upcoming Wicked movie, revealing her newly blonde hair to her followers. It was announced in November 2021 that the global pop sensation would be returning to her musical theater roots in the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical Wicked as Glinda, the bubbly and popular good witch, alongside Cynthia Erivo as the film’s antihero protagonist Elphaba. The film will be directed by Crazy Rich Asians‘ director John M. Chu who proved he is more than capable of helming musical movies with his 2021 adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights.
The adaptation, which Chu revealed will be split into two parts, is currently filming in London where it will recount the tale of the two witches of Oz, starting with their unlikely friendship and subsequent falling out long before Dorothy Gale’s arrival from Kansas. Though the original musical went on to become a global phenomenon, the path to getting a film version greenlit was not a smooth one. Rumors of an adaptation have swirled since 2004, just one year after the musical debuted on Broadway, and various directors from J.J. Abrhams to Ryan Murphy have been attached to a potential Wicked movie for years, with none coming to fruition. Now, with Chu on board to direct and two award-winning performers in the leading roles, fans are finally getting a film adaptation of Wicked.
Ariana Grande has officially transformed into Glinda the good witch, taking to Instagram to debut her newly blonde locks, with matching dyed eyebrows, confirming that production on the Wicked movie is underway. Much to fans’ delight, the pop sensation has abandoned her signature brunette ponytail to take on the role she has long claimed to be her dream opportunity. Check out her post above.
Everything We Know About The Wicked Movie

The film adaptation of Wicked was first announced by Universal in 2016 and, since then, more news has slowly been shared about the production. Alongside Erivo and Grande, who were the first actors attached to the project, John M. Chu recently announced that Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey will be joining the cast as Fiyero, the idealistic main love interest of both Elphaba and Glinda. While there is no word on the rest of the cast, if the amount of A-list celebrities who auditioned without making the cut is anything to go by, the film is sure to be a star-studded affair.
Though the announcement that the adaptation of Wicked would be split into two parts was met with mixed reactions from fans, it shows how committed Chu is to retain all the elements that made the original musical so iconic. Furthermore, many of the creative voices behind the original musical will have a hand in ensuring that the integrity and magic of the Broadway show lives on in the movie. Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, who co-wrote the music and lyrics to Wicked, wrote the film’s screenplay, and Marc Platt will be returning as a producer. Schwartz previously shared that the movie will also include new music, featuring three new songs and one that was written for the original production but got cut. Whether the film adaptation of Wicked lives up to the high expectations surrounding it will only become clear when it is released in two parts on successive Christmas days, in December 2024 and December 2025.
