Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow Video Has Fans Anticipating a Spinoff Announcement

A clip posted by HBO recapping Jon Snow’s arc through every season of Game of Thrones has fans hoping for news about a spinoff starring Kit Harington.

HBO has shared a Game of Thrones sizzle reel highlighting moments from Jon Snow’s journey over the course of every season, prompting speculation from fans that news about a spinoff is coming soon.

The video opens with a scene from the show’s pilot, in which Tyrion Lannister attempts to bond with Jon over how dwarfs and bastards, respectively, are given a peripheral place in their society. It then follows Jon to the Wall, showing him joining the Night’s Watch, his journey north of the Wall and his romance with Ygritte. It goes on through the later seasons with his death at Castle Black, his resurrection, being named King in the North and his relationship with Daenarys. Finally it touches on the Three-Eyed Raven revealing Jon’s true parentage, his killing Daenerys and his exile back to the Wall.

Jon Snow Strikes Out on His Own

With HBO known to have a Thrones spinoff centered on Jon Snow in development, though not yet in production, the sizzle reel views almost as if it were a recap at the beginning of a new season, if Jon were the main character. The show was announced back in June, with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin revealing in a blog post that it was Jon’s actor, Kit Harington, who conceived and pitched the idea. Harington is confirmed to be working on the series not just to reprise his role, but in a creative capacity as well. Martin revealed the working title of the show, “Snow”, and mentioned that it has been in development “almost as long as” the three other potential spinoffs currently in development.

December 9 also marks the first day of the first-ever Game of Thrones / House of the Dragon fan convention. Harrington is attending this convention, and that has strengthened rumors about Snow having details announced sometime this weekend.

HBO has a number of other Game of Thrones spinoffs set in the world of ice and fire in the works as well, although it is not certain that all of them will make it to air. One project, Bloodmoon, has already had its pilot rejected. Others include an adaptation of Martin’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms short stories, tentatively titled The Hedge Knight, and Ten Thousand Ships, which tells the story of Nymeria and the Rhoynar. The other live-action show in development is The Sea Snake, centered around the life of Corlys Velaryon, who appears in House of the Dragon. There are reportedly animated shows in development as well.

Both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are available to stream on HBO Max.
