Warning: spoilers for Vikings: Valhalla season 2.

The events of Vikings: Valhalla season 2 set up an exciting third season, and here’s what’s known about the future of the series. The success of the TV series Vikings made way for the sequel series Vikings: Valhalla, which tells the stories of a new generation of warriors. Set over 100 years after the events of the main series, Vikings: Valhalla follows siblings Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) and Freydis Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson), Norwegian prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) and his half-brother Olaf Haraldsson (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson), and Queen Emma of Normandy (Laura Berlin), with the paths of most of them converging at different points.

After Olaf and his army destroyed Kattegat only for it to be taken over by King Sweyn Forkbeard (Søren Pilmark), Leif unleashed his inner berserker, and Freydis and Harald ran away, Vikings: Valhalla season 2 sees Kattegat adapting to a new reign and while Freydis, Leif, and Harald search for a new home. Meanwhile, in England, after a failed assassination attempt, Queen Emma discovers that the one responsible is someone close to her, and that person has plans that put her reign at risk. Vikings: Valhalla season 2 easily sets up a third season, and here’s what’s known so far about Vikings: Valhalla season 3.

Vikings Valhalla Season 3 Renewal Status

Vikings: Valhalla debuted on Netflix in February 2022, and it was a success with critics and viewers. Netflix knew well that Vikings: Valhalla had a lot of potential, and in November 2019, it got a 24-episode order. In March 2022, Vikings: Valhalla was officially renewed for a second and third season, each season eight episodes long, so fans of the series can rest assured that there will be, at least, one more season to continue the stories of Freydis, Leif, Harald, Emma, and the rest.

Vikings Valhalla Season 3 Story Setup

Vikings: Valhalla season 2 once more saw Freydis and Leif and Harald going their separate ways, but this time, they might not reunite soon. After the deaths of Olaf and Jomsborg’s leader, Harekr, Freydis is now the leader of Jomsborg, opening the temple to all town residents and putting an end to the exploitation they had to endure. In addition to that, she made a peace treaty with Queen Aelfgifu (Pollyanna McIntosh), the new ruler of Kattegat, so she can now truly make Jomsborg the new Uppsala, a safe place for pagans who were left homeless and without a temple.

Meanwhile, Harald and Leif made it to Constantinople, where the Emperor will grant them whatever they want – they just need to decide what. Harald grew close to the now Empress of Constantinople, Elena, so he will most likely stay in order to be close to her and might even work for the Emperor, who told him he could use men like him. Leif will surely stay with Harald, and might continue learning about science after everything Mariam taught him. As for Queen Emma, now that Godwin got what he wanted and married Gytha (King Canute’s niece), she will keep a very close eye on him as she knows his plans and how far he’s willing to go.

When Vikings Valhalla Season 3 Could Release

Vikings: Valhalla’s biggest advantage is that it has already been renewed for a third season, and luckily for fans of the series, Netflix didn’t let too much time pass between seasons 1 and 2, so it’s fair to assume the same will happen with the third season. Vikings: Valhalla season 2 arrived less than a year after the first season was released, so if production of season 3 follows the same rhythm, Vikings: Valhalla could return with its third season in early 2024.
