Former friends Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors prepare for war in the ring in the final trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel Creed 3.

Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis and Jonathan Majors’ Damian are ready for war in the final trailer for Creed 3. Jordan pulls double-duty on the newest Creed sequel, serving as director as well as star. Joining him is exploding superstar Majors, taking on the role of Adonis Creed’s friend-turned-rival Damian Anderson.

It’s no spoiler to reveal that the rivalry between Adonis and Damian gets worked out in the ring in Creed III, as teased by the just-released final trailer via MGM.

Joining Jordan and Majors in the trailer is Tessa Thompson, who’s back again as Bianca. Not back for the third Creed is Sylvester Stallone, who appears to have hung up Rocky’s gloves forever. Surprisingly back is Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), who makes a brief appearance, for reasons that certainly will be elaborated upon in the movie.

How Creed 3 Raises The Stakes For Adonis

The original Creed saw Jordan’s Adonis fighting for respect and to establish himself outside the shadow cast by his father Apollo. The sequel Creed II then saw Adonis battling his greatest personal demon as he stepped into the ring against Viktor Drago, the son Ivan Drago, the man who killed his father in the ring. Now in Creed III, Adonis must battle a ghost from his past, in the form of Damian, who bears a grudge against Donny over something that happened to them in their childhood.

The continued maturation of Adonis is obviously an important part of Creed III, which actually begins with Adonis having retired from boxing to devote himself to his family. And that maturation obviously means that he must return to the ring in order to defeat Damian, who has arrived to challenge him in a way that no one else ever has. And this time around, Adonis won’t have Rocky in his corner, meaning he will have to stand on his own two feet in ways he never did before.

The final Creed 3 trailer sets up exactly what the stakes are for Adonis this time around, while also providing a showcase for Majors’ character, a complex villain with his own very powerful backstory and motivations. It all sets up an epic showdown, delivered with a visual approach that may be a little unique for the Rocky/Creed franchise, given Jordan’s admitted anime influences.
