Bizarre rumours that Liam Hemsworth is suing his ex-wife Miley Cyrus for defamation of character have been thoroughly debunked.
False claims circulated on Twitter this week after a Miley fan account alleged the Australian actor, 33, was suing the singer, 30, over her blockbuster diss track Flowers and its accompanying Easter egg-filled music video.
‘According to leaked documents, Liam Hemsworth is officially suing Miley Cyrus for defaming him after the success of the single Flowers,’ the account tweeted.
The account also falsely claimed Hemsworth was ‘about to lose his contract with Netflix’ – after replacing Henry Cavill in season three of The Witcher – as a result of the negative press surrounding Flowers.
In a follow-up tweet, the account shared ‘leaked documents’, purportedly from the actor’s legal team, as proof of the defamation claim being lodged.

The fake document claims Liam suffered ‘damage to public image [and] income’ and ‘humiliation’ as a result of the lyrics and video for Flowers.
However, the putative legal document was simply taken from a document-generator website, where the template is identical to the one used by the fan account.
The signatures at the top were both taken from Google, and the image was edited to look grainy and hard to read, presumably to make it appear like a genuine leak.

According to Reddit, determined ‘Miley stans’ are hoping the track beats Ariana Grande and The Weeknd’s new remix Die for You.
Cyrus appears to take several swipes at her ex-husband in the hit track, which has held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart for six weeks in a row.

In addition to the various references to her ill-fated romance with Hemsworth in the lyrics and video, Cyrus released the song on January 13 – the same day as her ex’s 33rd birthday.
Cyrus got engaged to Hemsworth in May 2012, but they split in September 2013 before reuniting in 2016.
The former couple married in December 2018, and their divorce was finalised in January 2020.

Cyrus and Hemsworth first fell in love in 2009 on the set of Julie Anne Robinson’s dismally reviewed romantic drama The Last Song.
Some of Cyrus’ fans believed she had intentionally picked January 13 as the release date as some sort of ‘revenge’ on Hemsworth, with one calling it ‘messy as hell’.
The actor has since moved on with Australian model Gabriella Brooks.

Since her divorce, Cyrus has dated The Hills alum Kaitlyn Carter, Australian swimmer Cody Simpson and Liily drummer Maxx Morando.
In March last year, she branded her marriage ‘a f**king disaster’ when she helped a couple get engaged during her set at Lollapalooza Brazil.
After congratulating the pair, the Midnight Sky hit-maker remarked: ‘Honey, I hope your marriage goes better than mine, mine was a f**king disaster.’
Miley had previously said there was ‘too much conflict’ in her marriage, claiming she didn’t ‘get off on drama or fighting’ with a partner.
