Jennette McCurdy recently visited Australia for a “once-in-a-lifetime moment.”

The actress-turned-author spoke at the All About Women 2023 festival this past weekend and shared why the visit and experience were so “unforgettable” for her in an Instagram post.

McCurdy, who spoke at the festival about her book, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos from the day and explain why this visit to Australia was so impactful for her.

“Speaking at the Sydney Opera House was unforgettable!! Years ago, I hit what I consider my ‘rock bottom’ in Australia, in the backseat of an Uber, while looking at the Sydney Opera House from afar, down a tooth and a lot of hope, fresh off purging my Tim Tams,” she wrote. “I was at a place where I didn’t really believe things could get better, but knew if there was any chance of that happening, of things changing, that I was gonna have to start by changing the only thing I had any control over: myself.”

Now years later, she found herself back in Australia but with a very different vibe. “To have gone back to Australia, now, years later, under completely different circumstances – for a career I am proud of and, more importantly, as a person, I am proud of – and to connect with an audience in a real, meaningful way (IN THE F***ING SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE ITSELF!!) was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for me.”

The “iCarly” actress concluded her caption by thanking the Sydney Opera House for having her there, and writer Rosie Waterland for “conducting an incredibly nuanced and thoughtful conversation with grace and humor and everything in between,” as well as the audience at the show.

“Afterward, I celebrated with a half-sleeve of Tim Tams, all of which remain unpurged,” she said. “PS, yes my trip aesthetic was ‘full tourist.’”

“I’m Glad My Mom Died” Is Still Going Strong On Bestseller Lists 29 Weeks After Release

McCurdy recently shared the news that her book is still going strong on bestseller lists 29 weeks after its release. She shared a photo on Instagram of the Indie Bestsellers Hardcover Fiction for the week of March 1, 2023, showing that “I’m Glad My Mom Died” is at the top of the list.

“29 weeks after release and you guys have yet again made IGMMD the #1 non-fiction book in the country on the indie bookstore bestseller list,” she wrote in the caption of the photo. “Thank you all for telling your friends, cousins, and moms (😱) to read the book. There is nothing like the power of word of mouth and that’s all you guys, so thank you.”

The author also shared a photo at the end of December that shows all the places the book was included for the best of 2022. Some of those places included Glamour, Amazon, Audible, Barnes & Noble, and Goodreads.

In December, the book was also on the New York Times Bestseller Print Hardcover list in the number two spot. She captioned a photo of the list, “Thank you all so much for keeping IGMMD on the New York Times Bestseller list for TWENTY consecutive weeks. I never could’ve imagined the book would make this kind of impact. To know that millions (!!) of you have taken the time to read it and connected with it so intimately… wow. I am deeply grateful.”
