An upcoming action – comedy – heist flick with Kevin Hart. Here’s everything we know about Netflix’s Lift.

1 / 9

We live in exciting times! Not many years ago, if a film filled with famous and talented actors, actors enjoying unbelievable popularity, taking place in many countries, and being a fun comedy – adventure, we would be bombarded with advertisements and many other ways of promoting it. But in recent years, they have gone straight to streaming, instantly accessible on our screens, without the need for any extra fees, in an effort of the streaming services to their never-ending streaming wars. Of course, we enjoy watching them without needing to pay more, but like we said in the beginning, exciting times!

Kevin Hart continues his successful collaboration with Netflix. We have enjoyed many fruits of their labor, movies like Me Time and Man From Toronto with his frequent collaborator the Rock, and comedy specials like Kevin Hart: What Now?, Kevin Hart’s Guide to Black History, and Kevin Hart: Irresponsible. The list of contents will grow in a few months with Lift. We know Netflix and Kevin Hart’s work, so viewers have an idea of what to expect. We are fairly optimistic that the level of quality will remain the same as before, with some laughs, adventure, a little heart, and an afternoon well spent. Unfortunately, there is not much information about this movie yet. Here is all the information we managed to find.

Netflix’s Lift: The Plot

Being a master thief does not mean an easy life. Sure, movies have taught us that it is all about the thrill of the heist, the huge amounts of money, and living a big life, but when an ex-lover convinces you to follow them on a huge heist, 100 million dollars in gold transported on a 777 passenger flight. This job needs to be done because its completion will prevent a terrorist attack! It seems like an impossible mission, but we will see if the diverse crew can pull it off in this movie, taking us to many countries, from London to Zurich.

Netflix’s Lift: The Cast

Kevin Hart brings all his charm and talent as the film’s protagonist. He has an enormous body of work, including adventure comedies like the Jumanji movies with the Rock, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, and dark comedies like Get Hard with Will Ferrell, and only his presence is like a seal of approval. With him, we have the veteran actor Jean Reno. The French actor became internationally famous after the movie Leon in 1994 with young Natalie Portman, but was in countless other films, like Pink Panther, Bronx, Le Grand Bleu, and so many more. Jacob Batalon also appears in the film, famous for his part as Ned in Marvel’s Spider-Man movies. Another actor enjoying recent popularity through Marvel’s projects is Vincent D’Onofrio playing The Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil and more recently in Marvel’s Hawkeye.

The cast of the movie is joined in by Sam Worthington (Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, Terminator: Salvation), Gugu Mbata-Raw (Summerland, Beyond the Lights, Beauty and the Beast), Ursula Corbero (G. I. Joe: Snake Eyes, La Casa de Papel), Billy Magnussen (Game Night, No Time To Die, The Many Saints of Newark), Sam Worthington (Wrath of the Titans, Fractured, Terminator Salvation) Burn Gorman (Watcher, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Crimson Peak), Yun Jee Kim (Welcome to the Guesthouse, Roadkill, Tumbleweed), Viveik Kaira (Voyagers, Three Months, Blinded By the Lights), and Paul Anderson (In the Heart of the Sea, Peaky Blinders, The Revenant).

Leremy Doner and Dan Kunka wrote the movie. It is directed by F. Gary Gray, who has directed many music videos for artists like Outkast, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube, but also movies like the eighth installments of the Fast & the Furious franchise, The Fate of the Furious, 2015’s Straight Outta Compton, 2009’s Law Abiding Citizen, and many more.

Netflix’s Lift: Release Date

Lift is set to release straight to streaming later this year on Aug. 25 on Netflix.

Heist movies, even when they get somewhat formulaic, can be a lot of fun. It is always exciting to see a well-orchestrated, complicated plan get executed. Another excellent characteristic of these movies is that they usually have huge casts of many different and talented actors. Half the joy they provide is watching them interact and play off each other’s roles. Finally, the life of a criminal is so exciting, but we do not like to see people getting hurt, but heist criminals are more like Robin Hood types, so we get to enjoy their work cruelty-free! Lift seems to check all the necessary boxes to be one of the genre’s finest. We will travel all across Europe, with Kevin Hart’s unique style will take us there.
