Game Of Thrones Art Imagines What Jon & Dany’s Family Could Have Looked Like

Heartwarming Game of Thrones fan art imagines what Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen’s family would look like if they had gotten a different ending.

Game of Thrones fan art imagines what Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen‘s family would look like. Kit Harington starred as Jon on HBO‘s popular fantasy drama, the illegitimate son of Eddard Stark (Sean Bean). However, Jon was later revealed to be King Rhaegar Targaryen’s rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Aegon. After Jon met Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) to form an alliance against the undead White Walkers, the two quickly fell in love. Unfortunately, the events of Game of Thrones season 8 led to a devastating conclusion to their relationship.

Jon and Daenerys are given a happy ending in Game of Thrones fan art shared by jonerystargaryen on Instagram.

Jon serves his role as an attentive, caring father to his two silver-haired Targaryen daughters in what appears to be a garden within the Red Keep. Although Daenerys is nowhere to be seen within the images, her appearance is clearly visible in her children’s faces.

Why Jon & Daenerys Did Not Get A Happy Ending

Premiering in 2011, Game of Thrones is based on George R.R. Martin‘s Song of Ice and Fire fantasy book series. With his first novel published in 1991, Martin has yet to complete its epic, expansive story. As a result, show writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were forced to surpass the original source material and conclude Game of Thrones in a way that may differ from what Martin has planned. Unfortunately, the series’ long-awaited conclusion proved to be controversial, with some pointing their ire at the way Benioff and Weiss ended Jon and Daenerys’ character arcs.

After losing two of her dragons, watching her oldest protector Jorah Mormont sacrifice his life for hers, and seeing her best friend Missandei beheaded, Daenerys felt she had nothing left to give and nothing more to lose. In deep sorrow and burning rage, the Mother of Dragons unleashed the power of her namesake and burned King’s Landing to the ground. With Daenerys now viewed as a Mad Queen, Jon took it upon himself to kill his love before she caused more death in Westeros.

A large portion of the Game of Thrones audience found Daenerys’ wrath-filled turn too abrupt, turning them against what could have been a dramatic conclusion to the beloved show. As a result, Jon’s true Targaryen lineage never came into play when deciding the new ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, and he was banished to live among the Wildlings. However, there is still a chance Martin will finish his novels and possibly deliver a happier Game of Thrones ending for Jon and Daenerys.
