Emilia Clarke: Game of Thrones costumes “looked great but felt horrific”
Game of Thrones was known for, among other things, its fantastic costumes. Characters like Sansa Stark, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen especially got to wear some iconic outfits, many of them conceived by the shows’ costume designer Michele Clapton.
But have you heard the phrase, “beauty is pain”? Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys for all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, shed some light on what that means in action when talking about to Who What Wear. “I will never wear costumes that beautiful again in my life unless I have the privilege of working with Michelle Clapton again,” she said. “But she definitely makes costumes that looked great but felt horrific. You couldn’t pay me to be in a corset again! They had to take me out of my costumes before I could eat. It looked amazing but—the price!”
Wearing a garment so restrictive that you can’t even eat when you’re inside it does sound like a huge pain. Something tells me Kit Harington didn’t have this problem with his costumes. Is it worth the price? You decide:
Emilia Clarke has regrets about bleaching her hair
Who What Wear also asked Clarke if she could give some advice to her younger self regarding her beauty routine. “Don’t ever bleach your hair,” Clarke replied. “Oh no! It’s too late. You already did.”
It’s true that Clarke bleached her hair Targaryen blonde for the final season of Game of Thrones, although she didn’t for the first seven seasons; for those seasons, she left it all up to the wigs.
