GoT Spinoff Fan Poster Imagines Aegon The Conqueror With Largest Dragon In History

A Game of Thrones spinoff fan poster teases a developing prequel depicting Aegon the Conquerer staring down the largest dragon in Westerosi history.

The most gigantic creature in Westerosi history is now being depicted in a fan poster as the Game of Thrones spinoff about Aegon’s Conquest continues active talks. After the success of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, HBO has taken an interest in telling the story of the first Targaryen king and his sisters. With Westeros divided into multiple kingdoms, it takes a trio of mighty rulers and an even mightier dragon to unite them.

After HBO announced that an Aegon’s Conquest show is in development83pixelstudios took to Instagram with a fan poster that shows off exactly how Aegon managed to conquer Westeros. Check out the poster below:

The most enormous dragon in the history of Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conqueror’s Balerion the Black Dread towers above the king and the many mountains surrounding them. While Aegon approaches, Balerion turns its massive maw and opens its mouth as the two prepare for conquest. Even with no Westerosi in sight, it becomes clear how outmatched the Seven Kingdoms are.

Why Aegon’s Dragon Is So Important

Aegon’s Conquest takes place hundreds of years before Game of Thrones, following the aftermath of the Doom of Valyria that left the Targaryen exiles with no home to return to. With access to the last surviving dragons in the world, the Targaryens have the opportunity to face off against a divided Westeros with practically no defenses. At the head of the three Targaryen dragons, Balerion stands the tallest.

Like Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons in Game of Thrones, the dragons in Aegon’s Conquest only continue to grow with age, and that is partly what makes Balerion so terrifying. As the eldest of the surviving dragons, he makes his fellow dragons, Vhagar and Meraxes, look minuscule. Though Vhagar is downright enormous in House of the Dragons, she is genuinely tiny compared to Balerion.

Nicknamed the Black Dread, Balerion is mighty enough to conquer Westeros on his own, with a few key holdouts that will likely be explored in the show. As the dragon who won Aegon the Conqueror his crown, it will be interesting to see how Balerion will be depicted in the series. Unfortunately, there is no current word on when the Game of Thrones spinoff might enter active development. Amid the Writers Guild strike, it will likely face some delays.
