Mayfair Witches Show Teaser Reveals Alexandra Daddario’s 13th Witch

The first footage from Mayfair Witches, an upcoming series based on Anne Rice’s novels, teases star Alexandra Daddario as the thirteenth witch.

The first footage from Mayfair Witches teases star Alexandra Daddario as the thirteenth witch. Mayfair Witches is based on a series of novels by Anne Rice, who is best known for The Vampire Chronicles. Before Rice’s passing last year, she made a deal with AMC to produce shows based on her works, with Interview with the Vampire debuting first, followed by Mayfair Witches in 2023. The novels featured character crossovers, as they exist within a shared universe.

Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford, who previously worked on Masters of Sex together, are serving as showrunners for Mayfair Witches, with Daddario cast in the lead earlier this year. Daddario stars alongside Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa, Beth Grant, and Harry Hamlin. The Mayfair Witches book trilogy follows Rowan Mayfair, a neurosurgeon who learns she is the heir to a line of witches. The series will follow a similar plot, with Daddario’s Rowan contending with a sinister presence that is said to have plagued her family for generations.

A post from the Interview with a Vampire Twitter account shared the first footage of the Mayfair Witches. The short video teases the creepy locales, complete with eerie music played over the chanting of names, including Rowan’s, as Daddario is seen pushing open a gate. Finally, a voice utters, “the thirteenth witch,” before teasing an early, yet unknown, 2023 release date. The short teaser is also accompanied by text reading: “Stay tuned for a full trailer soon.” Check out the Mayfair Witches teaser above.

How Mayfair Witches and Interview With The Vampire Are Bringing New Audiences To Anne Rice

Thanks to Rice’s deal with AMC, her novels are being introduced to new audiences through shows like Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire. Rice’s Interview with the Vampire novel first debuted in 1976. However, her books took on another life via movie adaptations. Interview with the Vampire was turned into a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, which brought new fans to her material and led to other films, like Queen of the Damned.

Now, with Interview with the Vampire already debuting to overwhelmingly positive reviews and Mayfair Witches set for next year, Rice’s work is being reinvigorated for new viewers. In addition, given that the novels feature crossovers with the characters, AMC also has the opportunity for an interconnected universe of shows. With audiences responding positively to interconnected universes spanning multiple properties, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rice’s fans may be eager for the same, even allowing the shows to gain a larger fanbase because of it. Still, AMC is clearly confident that Mayfair Witches will connect with audiences when it releases next year.
