Who Is G’iah, Emilia Clarke’s Character In Marvel’s Secret Invasion?

Secret Invasion will see various Skrulls either invading or defending Earth, and among them is G’iah, played by Emilia Clarke – but who is she?

Secret Invasion is introducing new characters and bringing back old ones, among them G’iah, played by Emilia Clarke, but who is she and what’s her role in Secret Invasion? The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues expanding on both the big screen and TV/streaming, and its latest TV project is Secret Invasion. Based on the comic book storyline of the same name, Secret Invasion will reunite the audience with well-known characters from the MCU, such as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the Skrull ally introduced in Captain Marvel.

Secret Invasion will follow Nick Fury as he uncovers a conspiracy by a group of Skrulls to gain control of Earth by assuming positions of power all over the world – and to his surprise, they have been infiltrating human society for years. Fury will then have to team up with Maria Hill, Ross, and Talos to stop the Skrulls and save humanity. Playing a role in this new story is G’iah, who was actually introduced alongside Talos in Captain Marvel, but she’s finally taking a bigger role in Secret Invasion – but who is G’iah and what is her role in the Secret Invasion TV series?

Who Is G’iah In The Marvel Comics?

Created by Robbie Thompson and Niko Henrichon, G’iah made her debut in Marvel Comics in Meet the Skrulls #1, in 2019. G’iah is a Skrull and specialized agent who was picked to breed with another Skrull agent named Klrr. G’iah and Klrr had three daughters and raised them on Earth, disguising themselves as an ordinary American family. The presence of G’iah and her family on Earth was part of the invasion plans of the Skrulls, and during one of their missions, their youngest daughter was captured and believed to be murdered by Project Blossom.

In order to blend with humans, G’iah and Klrr posed as Pepper Potts and Tony Stark to steal information. After their daughter Alice killed a Project Blossom agent, Klrr impersonated him to infiltrate easier and retrieve a device that located Skrulls. While in the Project Blossom facility, G’iah found Ivy, whose blood had been used to detect Skrulls. Unfortunately, Klrr was betrayed by fellow Skrull agent Moloth, who took his place to capture G’iah and her daughters, but Alice killed him. Deciding to avenge Klrr, G’iah and her daughters gathered information about the remaining members of Project Blossom and had a confrontation with a Kree agent, but in the end, they were left to wander Earth.

G’iah Is Talos’s Daughter In Secret Invasion

G’iah’s story in the MCU is different from the one she had in the comics. As mentioned above, G’iah is not new to the MCU as she was introduced in Captain Marvel, though she was a very minor character. In the MCU, G’iah is also a Skrull, but most importantly, she’s the daughter of Talos and Soren. After their home planet, Skrullos, was destroyed, Talos, Soren, G’iah, and many other Skrulls escaped and wandered across the universe searching for refuge. The Skrulls found an ally in rogue Kree scientist Mar-Vell, and while Talos continued to search for a new home planet, his family, along with other Skrulls, moved in to Mar-Vell’s lab on Earth.

However, their location was not made known to other Skrulls before Mar-Vell’s murder, so G’iah had no contact with her father for the next six years. Thanks to Carol Danvers, Maria Rambeau, and Fury, Talos was able to reunite with his family on Earth, with Danvers successfully destroying the Kree armada and saving the surviving Skrulls. The last time G’iah was seen was at the home of Maria and Monica Rambeau, where she developed a friendship with a young Monica Rambeau. At the end of Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers offered to be the Skrulls’ protector and help them find a new home planet, and this promise will be key in G’iah’s role in Secret Invasion.

G’iah’s Role In Secret Invasion Explained

As Talos’ daughter, G’iah is expected to be an ally of Fury and her father in the battle against the other Skrulls, but that might not be the case – or, at least, not at the beginning. Speaking to Vanity Fair about G’iah, Emilia Clarke explained that being Talos’ daughter and a refugee has “hardened” G’iah, and there’s a “kind of punk feeling” that you get from her. Clarke added that G’iah has had enough of Fury and other human beings, as they promised a lot of things to her and her people years ago and “not a lot has happened”, leading her to have a lot of resentment. The plot of Secret Invasion reveals that Captain Marvel didn’t deliver on her promise of finding a new home for the Skrulls, as three decades have passed since the Kree-Skrull conflict in Captain Marvel and the Skrulls still don’t have a home.

The trailer and teasers for Secret Invasion haven’t revealed much about G’iah’s role in this conflict, but she appears in her human form at all times and is often seen with weapons. G’iah will have a lot of personal issues to solve in Secret Invasion before she can properly choose a side, which won’t be an easy decision. G’iah’s role in the MCU will be completely different from the one she had in the comics, which allows Marvel to expand her character and give her a richer story.
